Christmas in England

Sipping a mellow glass of mulled wine by a crackling open fire. Listening to a brass band playing carols in the High Street, whilst last minute shoppers bustle around beneath the twinkling lights bedecking the town. Taking part in a midnight service at the parish church and feasting on good old English Christmas fayre.

What better way to spend Christmas than to enjoy the simple pleasures of traditional English Yuletide celebrations.

You could spend the holidays in a good old village inn. Joining in the Christmas cheer with the locals, as they call in for a pint before Christmas dinner. Or you may prefer the discreetly opulent surrounding of a country house hotel, where you can imagine Miss Marple sitting in a corner or the country squire walking in the door at any moment.

There are so many options to choose from that we are sure to find something just right for a Christmas to remember.

If you would like to extend your stay, then there can be no better way to see in the New Year than a Scottish Hogmanay celebration. Maybe in a Highland Castle or with the throngs of revellers in the ancient city of Edinburgh.

Of course one of the great pleasures of Christmas is shopping for gifts for family and friends. If you are bored with the same old shopping malls and stores back home, you could try the delights of an English Christmas market or the unique atmosphere of the London stores, the cheerful welcome of the small towns and villages or bargain hunting in one of the many craft workshops dotted around the countryside.

Whatever you choose to do, you can be assured of a warm welcome and a unique experience, as you settle into the congenial atmosphere of Christmas in England.
